Come face-to-face with nature’s gentle giants at Singita Kwitonda Lodge. Located on 178 unspoiled acres, the lodge sits on the edge of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, home to more than a third of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
Rwanda has become one of Africa’s fastest growing tourism destinations in recent years, with the country adopting a sustainable ‘low-impact, high-yield’ model to share their awe-inspiring landscapes while working to preserve them for future generations. With Singita following a similar approach across their existing African properties, it was no surprise when Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, personally invited the brand to open a lodge in the country’s wilderness.
Singita Kwitonda is the spectacular result of this effort, blending eco-conscious design with community partnerships that make meaningful differences to local residents. The lodge sits within a landscape of wetlands and lush meadows, with views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes. Within, guests can choose from seven one-bedroom suites, a two-bedroom suite, and an exclusive-use four-bedroom villa. The interior décor is bold, bright and memorable, leaning on rich, molten lava colors and local design touches. Amenities include indoor/outdoor showers, private heated plunge pools, and complimentary Wi-Fi Internet throughout.
Dining takes place in Singita Kwitonda’s enticing central hub, which is home to indoor/outdoor lounging spaces, an outdoor fire pit, interactive kitchen and a wine cellar. Guests are free to dine at any time, and sustainability is high on the menu, with many of the ingredients used grown in the Lodge’s own private gardens.
The main attraction for the majority of visitors to Singita Kwitonda Lodge is the opportunity to see majestic gorillas in their natural habitat. Guests can embark on all-day treks through thick forest terrain towards a local gorilla group. Guided by trained rangers, guests spend up to an hour with the gorillas, observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
